The Omnicats believe that representing and giving students within our community the opportunity to have access to robotics and to FIRST is just as important as preparing for the competition. Ever since 2012, we have been traveling through our community to elementary schools to showcase the messages of the FIRST Program (gracious professionalism and cooperation) as well as robotics. Our main goal was to inspire a passion for engineering and sciences in these under privileged schools. Our first project took place at Grand View Elementary School, a Title I school. At Grand View, we taught children the basics of Gracious Professionalism by demonstrating respectfulness during teamwork sessions while giving these children a hands on experience with robotics. We also host STEM nights for the Mar Vista community to take part in and learn more about robotics and other sciences. We also host a variety of competitions and events such the as FLL (FIRST LEGO League) practice and qualifying tournaments every year in the Fall. In the summer, we offer FLL and VEX summer camps for elementary and middle school students. In the Fall of 2017 we hosted one of the HP Workshops for FRC teams. Our team has also hosted the SCRRF Fall Workshops. Today, we are continuing our efforts to share the opportunities we, as Omnicats, were given to children who are less privileged or skilled than us.
